Our Mission

Project Pipeline is a summer camp program created in 2002 by the National Organization of Minority Architects to educate minority youth about the process and impact of architecture in our communities. With camps held by chapters across the country, Project Pipeline provides youth with a unique opportunity for exposure to the excitement of design and planning.

We teach minority youth about architecture and community-based design. Our summer camps are rigorous, fun academic environments, to observe, examine, and explore career paths through architecture, engineering, and design. A circle of dedicated professionals and young collegians teach, inspire and mentor our future visionary minds and civic leaders. We empower youth, to focus their creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills to develop neighborhood connections while nurturing the future generation of design scholars and leaders who will serve these communities.

NOMA NW Project Pipeline Summer Camp 2023

Aug 7th - 11th, 2023

Day 01

We jump started our program by having all students create a biography board to introduce themselves and also stimulate thinking about the relationship between self and the built environment.

For the remainder of this day, students participated in exercises to better understand scale, sketching, and model making.

Day 03

On Day 3 we began putting our design concepts to work by creating bubble diagrams to identify spatial relationships between programming.

Once complete, students began their physical models, floor plans, sections, and elevations.

Day 05

On our final day of the camp, we took all of the students on a field trip to the Family First Community Center where the students were able to meet and learn from the architects like our very own Meredith Everist who designed the facility.

Afterwards, students ventured to ARTE NOIR in the Central District designed by DLR Group.

Day 02

Day 2 we introduced students to their camp project by teaching them how to complete a site analysis from a virtual site visit through Google Maps.

Once familiar with the site, students were introduced to the project prompt. Using their knowledge of the site conditions, students were tasked to create a design concept.

Day 04

Day 4 was our final day working on our projects. During the morning, students worked together to finalize their models and drawings.

After lunch, everyone presented their work to the rest of the class.
