What do you love about your culture?

I love black women ♡ #protectblackwomen

We ask each other "Have you ate already?" which I think speaks to the importance of care + community

〰️

Playing Mahjong with a group of ladies every week

〰️

The increasing Mexican/Latinx population (but NOT the decreasing black residents)

〰️

I love our resilience and ability to rise. Our inimitable rhythm

〰️

Our non-verbal mutual understandings

〰️

That feeling when you enter your grandma's aromatic kitchen before dinner

〰️

Mexican Culture: Work Hard Play Hard w/ ♡

〰️

Kind words in women's bathrooms ♡

〰️

I love that even in the most dire situations, laughter and joy are found.

〰️

〰️

Variety is the spice of life and being Indian you involve and indulge in numerous spices that make your food amazing.

〰️

〰️

Black folks are the most creative race in the world! Facts!

〰️

My culture makes me proud knowing the extremely deep history that has shaped not just my immediate family, but my community as a whole. We have overcome and continue to move gracefully through so much struggle - using familial bonds, art, music, laughter, joy and heart to keep us vibrant, powerful, and alive.

〰️

Family is the base of a culture... let's build a great family!

〰️

I appreciate the importance of community in my culture. The interconnected nature of family and life. An emphasis on connection, which can feel different from what I've experienced in the west.

〰️

Outdoor vibes/activities and coffee shop culture as a way to meet new people.

〰️

Ukranians are generous, STRONG, honest and have a lot of tasty food :)

〰️

Jollibee!!

〰️

I love a culture that embraces diversity of thought, where all perspectives can be heard

〰️

I love the food - a Ghanaian

〰️

I value the morals and values that were instilled in me from my culture

〰️

I love the supportiveness of women in sports. It is genuine community that wants to see individuals grow! ♡

〰️

I ♡ being valued + loved for exactly who I am :)

〰️

Indian Community ♡ Always support each other

〰️

I love where I live! I'm surrounded by culture in my communal Filipino household. The food, the family and insight is priceless ♡

〰️

I love that my culture is very big on family. They're always there for me!

〰️

I love how Jewish people accept argument as an important part of life. As a means to seek higher truth. Instead of a method to create separation

〰️

Rugelach!

〰️

The importance of togetherness and trust as a Chinese family as well as other cultures ♡

〰️

Black people always find a way to be happy! We find joy in all things: clothes, music, food, dance, family, parties, just hanging out!

〰️

Community Care (+ knowing the value of showing up)

〰️

More affordable mental health support. A community awareness of neurodivergence. #loveoneanother

〰️

Food, family-orientedness, and pride! #Mabuhay!

〰️

The music, food, dance, art, family values, the Motherland!

This year we wanted to highlight all of the diverse and amazing cultures that make up our continually growing Seattle community. Visitors of our exhibit were able to take part in our installation by adding what they love about their culture while also admiring the pixelated murals of two BIPOC landmarks we painted along the exterior cubed façades.

Thank you so much to all of our volunteers who made this installation a reality!

It all starts with an idea!

Design: Kaylah Meikle + Cierra Higgins Contractor: Dog Construction LLC

The process

We want to give a special shoutout to Dog Construction LLC for being able to make this idea a reality! We are committed to continue building connections with minority owned businesses within the Seattle area. This is only the beginning!
